Berk-Tek Consultant Relations Program

Berk-Tek and JDS Uniphase have teamed to the industry’s most cost effective Ethernet and Fibre Channel cabling solutions.

Both companies announced the industry’s longest end-to-end multimode fiber extended distance guarantee. The two companies agreed to create a joint solution for device to device connectivity using multimode fiber at distances beyond the Ethernet and Fibre Channel specifications. This revolutionary approach aligns JDS Uniphase’s SW 850nm GBIC, SFF/SFP, XENPAK, X2 and XFP optical modules with the extended distance performance of Berk-Tek’s cutting edge 50/125µm and 62.5/125µm GIGAlite™ multimode fiber optic cable line. For the first time, Local Area Network (LAN) and Storage Area Network (SAN) designers and consultants can take advantage of lower cost SW 850nm optics running extended distances over multimode fiber with the knowledge that the performance is warranted by the cable manufacturer and also supported by the optical module manufacturer.

In addition, Berk-Tek demonstrated 10 Gb/s transmission over its GIGAlite-10XB multimode fiber optic cable using fiber optic leader JDS Uniphase’s SW 850nm XFP optical transceiver. The public demonstration, which is the first of this type, established that extended distances beyond the 802.3ae Ethernet and 10GFC Fibre Channel specifications are possible when using lower cost 10 Gb/s SW 850nm XFP optical fiber modules over GIGAlite™ multimode fiber optic cable.
